The female body is beautiful in many ways, from its subtle curves to its strong lines to its delicate folds. Though beauty can be found in the individual parts – and in the way they all fit together – my work focuses on the vagina, a subject that can be threatening, exciting and uncomfortable for men and women alike. I want to challenge the audience to view the vagina in a way it is often not considered.
Every woman is different, so just as the colors and patterns vary from picture to
picture, my canvas is constantly changing with each new model. What remains constant is the way the images capture the full beauty of both the flowers and the vagina as they are blended together in my work, “Full Bloom.”
The vagina can be mysterious, and the experience of viewing it in my photographs may be as well. The subject mailer is not always clear at first, but as viewers realize what they are looking at, it is interesting to experience the “wow” moment when the image is completely understood. The vagina is hiding in plain sight, and I present it with a subtlety that invites the investigation of this amazing pai1 of the body. Participating in this project may take courage, but the moment the models begin to expose themselves, they are taking a step toward overcoming their fears and insecurities.
Just as flowers and life grow from a small seed, I want “Full Bloom” to plant a seed in the minds of my audience, a seed that challenges them to look at and appreciate
the vagina in a new, beautiful way.
